With your help, the Florida Brain Cancer 5K (www.fbc5k.org) will continue to be one of the most successful Run/Walks in Florida! It is so important to have dedicated volunteers that will help us not only in the planning stages of the event, but also on Event Day.
We can’t do this without you and look forward to adding you to our passionate team!
Volunteer Opportunities on Event DayThe following are volunteer opportunities for Event Day:
Registration and Setup
Prior to the start of the event, volunteers will assist with Setup and Registration/Check-In. Duties could include setting up tables and chairs; hanging banners and distributing signage throughout the event site; running and maintaining registration and check-in; collecting on-site pledges; assisting participants as they arrive; supporting the Kids Fun Run and distributing bibs and t-shirts. There will be a brief training the day before the 5K so you will know exactly what to do.
Walk/Run Course
Prior to the start of the event, volunteers will assist with setup of the Walk/Run Course. This role could include setting up route signs, stocking and manning water stations, managing runners time shout-outs, ushering runners through the finish line, or other activities. There will be a brief training the day before the 5K so you will know exactly what to do.
Survivor Tent
Throughout the course of the event participants will have an opportunity to visit the survivor tent. This tent will contain the Wall of Hope and special treats for brain tumor survivors participating in the event. Volunteers in this area will serve to answer any questions participants have about the event, the benefiting organizations or Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure. There will be a brief training on the morning of the 5K so you will know exactly what to do.
Food and Beverage
During the Run/Walk portion of the event there will be a number of roles that need to be filled including: course managers, water station attendants, finish line ushers, survivor tent volunteers and Kids Fun Run supporters. There will be a brief training on the morning of the 5K so you will know exactly what to do.
Breakdown
Following the Run/Walk we will need volunteers to help breakdown the event site. These individuals are welcome and encouraged to volunteer in other areas leading up to break down, but will be expected to stay until the area has been cleaned and packed up. This activity may require some heavy lifting (40-60 lbs.).
If you have questions about volunteering, please email florida5k@abc2.org

About Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure

Mission Statement
Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure (ABC2) believes that a nimble, focused and aggressive entrepreneurial model will increase the number of therapies discovered and then enable those therapies to be more rapidly driven into the clinic. We provide researchers with the pivotal support they need to make critical breakthroughs. We fund novel translational research aimed at finding the fastest possible route to a cure.
ABC2's partners range from medical research centers to early-stage biotechnology companies to large multi-national pharmaceutical companies. These partners all share a vision of driving translational research and moving treatments as fast as possible from basic discovery to the clinic. Since brain cancer affects a relatively small portion of the population, ABC2 recognizes the importance of investing in the early stages of the most novel sectors of the discovery and development pipeline in order to "buy down the risk" for our partners and speed progress of innovative new treatments to the clinic.
Description
ABC2 invests in each stage of the therapeutic development pipeline. Our Pre-Clincial Screening Program breaks down barriers to entry, our Research Grants focuses on novel therapies, and our collaborations with industry allows us to bring the most promising treatments to patients quickly.
Since its founding in 2001, Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure (ABC2) has awarded over $13 million to fund brain cancer research.
