Green Tacoma Day at Gog Le Hi Te

Tacoma’s parks and open spaces need your help! These natural resources provide people with clean air, clean water, and access to nature. Keeping them healthy is a community effort. Join hundreds of volunteers and Forterra as we work to keep Tacoma green and volunteer at Gog Le Hi Te, one of ten different event sites around the city.

Gog Le Hi Te is a beautiful wetland on the shore of the Puyallup river that provides important habitat for hundreds of species of birds in the middle of an otherwise industrial area. Volunteers will pull invasive weeds, remove litter, and plant and mulch trees and shrubs to ensure that this special habitat stays healthy into the future.

About Forterra

Mission Statement

Forterra's mission is to act with immediacy to protect, enhance and steward our region's most precious resources--its communities and its landscapes. Since 1989, we have been working toward a future in which our children and grandchildren can experience nature in and around our urban environments.

Description

Forterra conserves land by working with individuals, companies and local governments. We strive to maximize the ecological value of land, while meeting the needs of landowners. We may accept land as a donation, purchase it, or transfer it to public ownership. We often serve as a broker to identify and negotiate the most effective ownership to protect important lands. We establish conservation easements to preserve special features. For each and every property, we explore available strategies or create new ones to provide permanent protection. Forterra has established a Conservation Agenda for our region, with specific priorities and methods for each type of landscape. Current initiatives include the protection of working forests on the foothills of the Cascades, and the creation of salmon sanctuaries along our region's highest quality rivers and streams.
