ORGANIZATION: Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS)

TAPS Logo

On behalf of the 80,000 surviving family members who have lost their hero in the United States Armed Forces, TAPS has accepted a donation from a local couple who live in McLean, VA. The donation is in the form of 3 fully furnished antique dollhouses, 1 greenhouse, and 1 gazebo. This local couple has been collecting and building these dollhouses for the past 30 years and as they transition into a smaller living arrangement, they were unable to keep these precious dollhouses as they are almost 6 feet long and 4 feet high. They have kindly donated them to TAPS in hopes we can auction them off for a profit to serve the needs of our survivors. Our request is for a knowledgeable volunteer to: 1. Assess the dollhouses for an estimate of a potential starting bid. 2. "Fix up" some of the items within the dollhouses that are in need of repair due to aging. 3. Provide guidance on how to best spread the word or increase awareness of these dollhouses for sale. The dollhouses are in beautiful condition as they were never a toy for a child, but rather carefully constructed as a passionate hobby shared by a woman and her two sons. Photos of the dollhouses are available. We would love to host you here in our National Headquarters where we provide comfort, compassion, and care for America's families of the Fallen as you support us on this amazing opportunity. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Description

OUR WORK

TAPS provides a variety of programs to survivors nation and worldwide. Our National Military Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp has been held annually in Washington, D.C. over Memorial Day weekend since 1994. TAPS also conducts regional survivor seminars with adult and youth programs at locations across the country as well as retreats and expeditions around the world. Staff connects surviving family members to counseling in their community and helps navigate benefits and resources.

PEER SUPPORT FOR BEREAVED SURVIVORS

TAPS was founded on the principles of best practices in peer-based emotional support for bereaved survivors. Today, TAPS provides care to over 100,000 grieving military family members using these best practices. Peer support gives those who have had a unique experience or who are facing a personal challenge the framework to connect with others who share that experience or challenge. Peer support happens in individual and group settings. By the simple act of knowing they are not alone in their experience and realizing that other have overcome similar challenges, peers find validation, normalization, and ultimately, a sense of hopefulness.

TAPS is a national nonprofit 501(c)3 Veterans Service Organization and has a four-star rating on Charity Navigator.
