Our largest community event at The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is Light The Night. When you or someone you love hears the words "you have cancer", it’s one of the darkest moments in your life. At Light The Night (LTN), it is our aim to bring light to the darkness of cancer through research and cures. LTN is a series of fundraising campaigns benefiting LLS’ funding of research to find blood cancer cures. We bring hope instead of despair by working to ensure access to treatments for all blood cancer patients. We bring communities together to celebrate those who are fighting the disease and to honor those we have lost. We are taking steps to end cancer. WE LIGHT THE NIGHT.

The Opening Ceremony begins at 630p with our walk to begin immediately following. Our walk cannot be a success without the help of our volunteers. We have various shifts and needs throughout the day, all beginning at 930am. You are allowed to work all day, but shifts are broken down as follows:

  • 930a-130p
  • 130p-530p
  • 530p-930p (or until everything is done/cleaned up)

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Event set up: t-shirts, registration, lanterns, bright lights, start arch, remembrance pavilion, team tents/pavilions, Circle of Survivors, kids zone, food area, etc
  • Event support: distribute t-shirts, distribute lanterns, distribute bright lights, register participants, collect money, monitor team tents, monitor kid zone, monitor food section, monitor corporate village, monitor Circle of Survivors, monitor remembrance pavilion, etc
  • Walk: route volunteers spread amongst the 2 mile course
  • Post-walk: clean up all areas and pack up the rental truck

Mission Statement

The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. We work tirelessly to find cures and ensure patients can access the lifesaving treatments they need. When someone experiences the fear and uncertainty of a blood cancer diagnosis, we provide hope, compassion, education and support. Our impact is felt beyond blood cancer. The breakthrough treatments we helped advance for blood cancers are now improving the lives of people affected by many types of cancer.

Description

Volunteers are our partners in the crusade to end cancer.

In 2017, LLS volunteers made a significant impact while selflessly dedicating their time and talent to achieve our mission. With countless ways to engage, from fundraising to providing patient support, our volunteers are changing the landscape of cancer.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) was founded in 1949 to serve residents who have been touched by one of the blood cancers: leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
