Have you always wanted to open or work in a boutique? Do you consider yourself equally creative and organized? Are you interested in helping children, adults and families make real and meaningful change in their lives?

The Village for Families & Children is looking for a group of dedicated, passionate volunteers to help open a thrift boutique in West Hartford. The Village’s three other Second Chance Shops - in Glastonbury, Simsbury and Suffield - have all been successfully run by our volunteer Auxiliaries for over 50 years. Last year, they collectively raised nearly $280,000 in support of The Village.

We are finalizing details on a storefront on Park Road in West Hartford - formerly The Junior League of Hartford’s Clothes Horse shop - and are organizing a West Hartford Auxiliary to run the shop. This is an exciting opportunity to build a thrift boutique from the ground up. This new Auxiliary will have support from and be able to leverage the knowledge, experience and expertise of our other three Auxiliaries and The Village staff.

There are a variety of volunteer roles to fill. Whether you’d like to manage shop operations, help shoppers find the perfect item, sort and price donations, manage social media and outreach activities and more - there’s something for everyone!

About The Village for Families & Children

Location:

Mission Statement

Imagine a day when all children are living in safe and stable homes. Unfortunately, this is not the reality for thousands of children currently in need of our help. The Village, founded in 1809, was one of the first agencies in the country to provide homes for neglected children. Over 200 years later, The Village continues to help vulnerable children and at-risk families throughout the Greater Hartford region - over 8,000 each year. Our mission is "to build a community of strong, healthy families who protect and nurture children." We fulfill this mission by providing a full range of behavioral health treatment and support services for children, families and adults - including parenting education classes, outpatient mental health therapy, substance abuse treatment, and foster care and adoption - which help them achieve real and meaningful change in their lives.

Description

For over 200 years, The Village has been dedicated to building a community of strong, healthy families who protect and nurture children. In 1809, this effort was established and led by a committed group of women, the Hartford Female Beneficent Society. Over the years, the Society merged with organizations such as the Hartford Orphan Asylum, Connecticut Children's Aid Society and Children's Services of Connecticut. Through time there have been changes in the organization's name and services, but the commitment to assist children and families has remained constant.
