About Xtreme Learning Center

Xtreme Learning Center's before and after school program is available for kindergarten to 8th-grade students in the Norristown Area School District. Our program offers a unique feature to serving school-age youth through our STEM curriculum which will encourage students to take a greater interest in a non-traditional subject matter, college degrees, and career fields.

XLC's before/after school care runs through the school year and follows Norristown Area School District's schedule for school closings and early dismissals. Our AM program starts at 6:30 am and continues to their school start time. In the evening, we will pick up your child from their school or have their bus drop them off at our facility, and we do homework and learning activities until 6:30 pm.

Tutors/Classroom Aides

We are seeking volunteers to assist as tutors and classroom aides for our elementary-aged students. Classroom Aides will also help teachers with picking up students from bus stops and serving snacks/dinner. We are asking volunteers to commit to at least one day per week.

All volunteers must provide recent PA Background Check, Child Abuse Clearance, and FBI Fingerprinting

Mission Statement

OIC's mission is to continue to be the nation's leader in providing quality education, training, employment, and housing services through a national network of local affiliated organizations enabling economically disadvantaged people of all races and background to become productive fulfilled members of the American society.'

Description

Montgomery County Opportunity Industrialization Center (OIC) was established in 1966, using the already successful model of the Philadelphia OIC, founded by Rev. Leon Sullivan. OIC is a non-profit organization dedicated to training residents of the county so they can gain employable skills to become productive patrons of the community. In addition, we are active in the revitalization efforts of the Municipality of Norristown and Montgomery County.

OIC’s main goal is to help stamp out illiteracy which causes many of the social problems in Montgomery County. It has been established that poverty, juvenile delinquency, crime, and a lack of social awareness all stem from illiteracy. Research has shown that children born in poverty are more likely to leave school before graduation. Therefore, OIC feels it is imperative to reach as many adults and children as possible. Programs at the OIC include: GED courses, English as a second language, Camp Xtreme Math and Science Enrichment, Xtreme Learning Daycare Center, Norristown Youth Development Coalition, and The Norristown Project.
