The Community College of Aurora’s (CCA) High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation program is looking for enthusiastic individuals to serve as volunteer tutors and assist adults (ages 17 to 50’s and beyond) as they study to increase their basic skills, pass the High School Equivalency (GED) exams and become career and college-ready, or for their own personal reasons.

Volunteer tutors assist learners under the guidance and direction of an HSE Instructor or the Adult Education Coordinator. They may work with learners on a one-on-one basis or in small groups, covering topics including language arts, math, social studies, and/or science. They may also assist learners with basic computer skills.

Classes meet in four 10-week sessions throughout the year:

Monday through Thursday 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon; or

Monday through Thursday 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM; or

Saturday 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM

The greatest need for volunteer tutors is for evening or Saturday classes.

CCA volunteers will serve as members of the Senior Hub's RSVP - SHOUT program and will be expected to complete an RSVP - SHOUT enrollment form so that their hours may be counted in the totals reported to the agency's funders. To receive the enrollment form contact Tom Rapp, RSVP - SHOUT Director at 720-523-2820 or trapp@seniorhub.org. You may contact Janet Paulson, Adult Education Coordinator directly, at 303-340-7047 or Janet.Paulson@ccaurora.edu. for more information about the program. Tutors must pass a CCA Background Check before working with learners and abide by all CCA and Colorado Community College System policies and procedures.

Class Location: Community College of Aurora, 9202 East Severn Place, North Building, Denver, CO 80230.
