The 2018 TECHCORPShack coding event, sponsored by AT&T, will give high school students in the Columbus, Dayton, and Zanesville regions the opportunity to learn about computer science in a fun, engaging and inclusive environment. Over the course of the experience, participants will learn how to utilize MIT App Inventor to explore the world of mobile app development to create an app that tackles a real-world need or problem. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet and work with other coders, technology leaders and advocates from their community.

Volunteer Roles
Judge As a judge, you will view and assess each team’s presentations and provide feedback using a predetermined rubric (based on the criteria of creativity of project; students’ ability to explain the project; real-world application of project; and overall presentation). The right person for this position has technical expertise in programming or app development, can provide constructive criticism, and has a desire to see high school students succeed! Judges must commit to volunteering Saturday, November 17th, 1:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Mentor Students will be placed on project teams of five (5); each project team will have at a tech mentor who will provide guidance and support to the team during the development of their project and presentation. The right person for this position is energetic, supportive and likes working with teenagers!
Mentors must commit to volunteering both Friday, November 16th, from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., and Saturday, November 17th, from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Dinner on Friday and lunch on Saturday will be provided.

Logistics Volunteer - As a logistics volunteer, you will assist with event logistics such as table set-up/break-down, registration, and other event support.
Logistics volunteers may sign up for 1 - 5 shifts based on availability: Friday, November 16th, 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 16th, 8:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Saturday, November 17th, 8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. Saturday, November 17th, 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Saturday, November 17th, 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

PARTNERS Increasing educational technology resources through partnerships with education, business, government and community.

Description

Through the development of engaging technology programs and the use of tech-savvy community volunteers, TECH CORPS is building a sustainable and replicable "pipeline of support" which stretches from elementary school through high school. Students entering this pipeline incrementally build critical technology and 21st century skills tied directly to their future educational and professional success.
