Description: One of the rarest plant species in the world, Lakela’s Mint is found only along a three-mile stretch of the Atlantic Coastal Ridge in north Fort Pierce and Vero Beach. Savannas Mint is even more rare, with nearly all individuals existing in the introduced populations at Savannas Preserve State Park. We’ve been collection demographic data from the natural and introduced populations for over ten years, and are now seeing results of a population viability analysis based on all that data. The analysis is helping us understand the life cycle of the species and predict its likelihood of extinction. Please help us continue to collect data on these populations to help understand and preserve these species. No experience is necessary. Participants will work in pairs to collect survival, size and reproductive data. We will provide all datasheets and materials, and a complimentary lunch afterwards. Volunteers can either carpool from Bok Tower Gardens (roughly 1.5 hour trip) or meet us at the sites.
