The Benjamin Banneker Association is a non-profit organization committed to supporting and advocating for mathematical literacy for all children, with a specific focus on black children / children of African descent. Our mission is to provide solutions for addressing the needs of children and people who have been historically marginalized in our education system. We are in need of community organizers to help us connect with schools, businesses, and individuals to increase our membership, volunteer base and visibility.
While we are a national education organization, our main offices are in Texas. As a community organizer, you would be responsible for:
- Helping the Benjamin Banneker Association (BBA) in expanding our membership base
- Developing sound organizing strategies
- Recruiting volunteer leadership
- Assisting with fundraising
- Facilitating training sessions

The members of the Benjamin Banneker Association, Inc. are deeply committed to finding solutions to the problems that must be solved in order for African-American children to have equitable opportunities to study and achieve in mathematics. The attendant goals include: -To serve as an advocate for the educational and professional needs of its members. -To serve as an advocate for the educational and developmental needs of African American children, especially as these needs relate to their mathematics education.
Description
The Benjamin Banneker Association, Inc. is a national non-profit organization dedicated to mathematics education advocacy, establishing a presence for leadership, and professional development to support teachers in leveling the playing field for mathematics learning of the highest quality for African-American students.
