ORGANIZATION: ANOKA COUNTY RSVP

Volunteers are critical in participating in HUD's annual Point-In-Time Count, which communities are asked to count the number of people experiencing homelessness in their area. Volunteers are present at a variety of locations throughout Anoka County, allowing for more opportunities to meet with people experiencing homelessness, to complete surveys. Indoor locations tend to have one volunteer per shift, while outdoor locations will have teams of two people. Volunteers would be comfortable approaching community members to invite them to participate in the survey. Volunteers attend their preferred training session

Volunteers can also sign up for their preferred location/shift time of two hours (Indoor: Libraries, food shelves, community meal sites and 24 hour gas stations), or (outdoor locations: bus stops at Northtown and Downtown Anoka). Volunteers may sign up in teams of two for indoor locations, but would need to indicate the other team member in the comments section, when signing up.

WILDER:

Wilder Research has asked regions across the state to count the number of people experiencing homelessness in their communities, and Anoka County is seeking volunteers for this effort, which will take place on October 25th at various locations around the County.

Trainings are scheduled from 1:00-2:30 PM on October 15thor from 2:00-3:30 PM on October 16th held in room 552 on the 5th floor at the Anoka County Government Center, 2100 3rd Ave., Anoka MN. Visit: http://www.anokacounty.us/2018MnHomelessStudy to sign up for the trainings or for more information about this initiative. A self-guided training is available for those who have participated in past studies and will be posted on the 2018 Minnesota Homeless Study Webpage toward the end of September.

Since 1991, Anoka County has participated in counting the number of homeless people staying in shelters and transitional housing units and has recently expanded that effort to include food shelves, bus stops, and even libraries. The data collected during these counts is used to guide program development and to support requests for funding at the federal, state and local levels to combat homelessness.

People who volunteer for this study will be helping shape the future in a positive way for individuals in need of stable housing. After training is complete, participants will have options as to where and for how long they'd like to volunteer. Those who take part in the study will be paired with other volunteers who have experience working with the homeless. For people experiencing homelessness, the study is completely voluntary, and for those who choose to participate, a $10.00 stipend is awarded.
