Mission Statement
Founded in 2012, Hedgepig Ensemble Theatre is an award-winning nonprofit theatre service organization located in New York City and working toward national impact. We reimagine the classics, creating a legacy of storytelling with gender equity at the core. Our flagship project is Expand the Canon (www.expandthecanon.com) - an effort that broadens the 'classics' by including voices of a diverse group of women. Heralded by American Theater Magazine, Playbill.com, The New York Times, and Token Theatre friend, this program is the backbone of all our work. We believe that stories handed down from generation to generation shape culture - and we want to see a more inclusive world.
Description
Hedgepig is the leader in finding, curating, and advocating for classic plays for women through our flagship program, Expand the Canon. Each year, we create a resource of curated plays, a podcast, and partnership readings and productions.
We are working toward publishing monologue books, crafting workshops for universities, and delivering professional development for high school teachers. We are working to scale our organization to become the center for gender equity in the classics.
