Overview

The Champion Program at Cradles to Crayons is a way for adults to give back and volunteer their time on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. A Champion Volunteer Leader in the Sizing station helps us process clothing into large bags by their size and type. This then allows the outfit station to focus on making outfits packs instead of finding the right size clothing. Those outfit packs then go out to children who are in need.

The sizing champion will give a group of volunteers a short orientation explaining what to do in the station. Then during the shift they will help answer questions volunteers have about the station, keep track of our inventory, and help move bags to their proper spots to be stored.

As a Champion Volunteer Leader you will:

-Receive a complete Giving Factory station training
-Lead or co-lead volunteer groups of 5-20 people
-Enjoy working with diverse volunteer groups
-Help provide items to children in need

Responsibilities:

  • Give a short station orientation to the volunteers assigned to your station
  • Answer station specific questions people have
  • Keep volunteers supplied with product they need in the station
  • Keep track of inventory
  • Provide a quality volunteer experience
  • Make sure the station is clean and ready to go before and after your shift

Commitment

Excellent candidates can commit to a weekly or bi-weekly shift (2.5 hours each) for ideally 6 months. Shifts can be canceled upon notice. We are especially interested in volunteers that can come in for any of the following shifts.

-Tuesdays (9:45-12:15 am) or (1:15-3:45 pm)
-Wednesday (1:15-3:45)
-Thursday (9:45-12:15 am) or (1:15-3:45 pm)
-Friday (9:45-12:15 am) or (1:15-3:45 pm)
-Saturdays (9:45-12:15 am) or (1:15-3:45 pm)

-Sundays (9:45-12:15) or (1:15-3:45pm)
*Occurs only once a month
-Tuesday evenings (3:15-5:45pm) or (6:15-8:45pm) *Occurs roughly twice a month in the Fall-Spring

Next Steps:
If you can help out weekly or bi-weekly on one of the shifts above that would be ideal. If this sounds like something you want to be a part of, the next step is to schedule a time with me to come in to start your first shift as a champion. You can start at any time.

For the first couple of shifts you will help someone who is leading the station. After a couple of times coming in, when you are comfortable with the station, then you will be free to run the station on your own. I look forward to scheduling your first champion shift into the warehouse. Please let me know if you have any question or need more information.

Thank you,
Chris

About Cradles to Crayons

Location:

281 Newtonville Ave, Newton, MA 02460, US

Mission Statement

Founded in 2002, Cradles to Crayons is an innovative nonprofit organization that provides children living in homeless or low-income situations with the essential items they need to thrive - at home, at school and at play. Cradles to Crayons also sets a foundation for lasting change by providing meaningful, tangible volunteer opportunities to thousands of individuals and hundreds of organizations each year.

Description

By partnering with schools, corporations and community groups for donations, and with social-service organizations serving homeless and low-income families, we connect communities that have surplus resources--new or used items in good condition--with communities that desperately need access to those resources. We currently serve over 100,000 children per year out of our Boston location.

One of the unique components of the Cradles to Crayons operating model is the opportunity for volunteers to engage their own communities in our mission through our Community Champion Program. This program egages adults in leadership roles as a means of increasing Cradles to Crayons' capacity to engage with volunteers and community members, develop meaningful relationships, and ultimately serve more children. Champions may fulfill their role in a variety of ways- from hosting a large scale donation drive, to serving as an ambassador or maintaining one of our donation bins. Through these meaningful, hands on volunteer opportunities, we aspire to set a foundation for lasting change.
