Want to build your resume/earn academic credit while contributing to a meaningful cause?

Clear Blue Sea (CBSea) is a San Diego nonprofit startup dedicated to cleansing the oceans of plastic pollution. One of our main efforts is to educate the public about ocean plastic pollution and advocate for solutions to address this problem, especially with younger generations as they will face worsening environmental conditions in their lifetimes.

We are looking for volunteers or interns to assist with website design, development, and maintenance. We have an operational website at clearbluesea.org, but want updates so it is more informative, interactive and engaging. Our goal is to better inform more people about marine plastic pollution, our innovative robotic solution, and action needed to solve this crisis. The website also serves as our primary portal for receiving donations from the public and enabling people to sign up for CBSea articles and reports.

This position offers flexible hours with specific roles and responsibilities defined in collaboration with the CBSea team. If you are passionate about saving the oceans and have a knack for website design, development, or maintenance, please get in touch!

Examples of website tasks include:

  • Maintain/update website with latest content to reflect current status of CBSea
  • Redesign layout of the website home page to better conveyor Clear Blue Sea’s multifaceted mission and ways that individuals can get involved
  • Revise website home page design and format to be more compelling and engaging
  • Redesign subpages of the website to align with new home page design and make the website more interactive
  • Participate in CBSea peer reviews of website status, issues, and future planning
  • Integrate "Storymaps" into the website to present Clear Blue Sea’s mission and accomplishments in a more graphical format
  • Redesign Paypal donation interface to be more user friendly and/or implement other online interfaces for receiving donations
  • Implement a pop up or other capability to request email signups
  • Strengthen the integration of our website with social media platforms
  • Attend biweekly meetings with Clear Blue Sea to present status, brainstorm issues, discuss next steps, and secure guidance and collaboration as needed

Mission Statement

Clear Blue Sea's mission is to cleanse the oceans of floating plastic pollution by operating fleets of unmanned marine robots powered by renewable energy.

Description

CLEAR BLUE SEA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in San Diego, CA with a mission to cleanse the oceans of plastic pollution. Clear Blue Sea’s innovative marine debris removal system is an unmanned, solar-powered Floating Robot for Eliminating Debris (FRED). Three small-scale FRED prototypes have been built and tested in Mission Bay and several new FRED projects are currently in work, including a FRED Do-it-Yourself (FREDDY) Instructional Package and the design of a 50-foot FRED to be implemented in Hawaii as a pilot.
