ORGANIZATION: Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum

The Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum is seeking to fill several volunteer positions. Volunteer Interpreters help our staff in answering general visitor questions and providing tours of the museum year-round. Training is provided in both history and interpretation, but an interest in history is required. This historic site covers topics including Native American history, immigration, fashion, and food.

The museum is open to the public Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday from 12pm-4pm. Regular two- and four-hour shifts are available, as well as fill-in positions (as needed). Please note that a commitment of at least nine months is required. Excellent communication skills required.

Mission Statement

The Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum, the last remaining 19th-century estate in the Bronx’s Pelham Bay Park, is a cultural and educational institution that serves the broader New York City community. The Bartow-Pell Conservancy works to preserve and maintain the historic Greek Revival mansion and carriage house, as well as the museum’s collection, its gardens, and the surrounding landscape, and to interpret the site’s history with innovative and dynamic educational and public programming for schools, adults, and families.

Description

The Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum provides school and community programs based in a historic country estate from the nineteenth century. The Museum occupies a unique space in the New York City landscape, and public offerings embrace the history of the site from pre-European settlement to the modern day.
