We are looking for volunteers to assist with the distribution of marketing materials celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Maryland Clean Indoor Air Law and promoting e-cigarette prevention.
Volunteers will celebrate this landmark anniversary year by distributing marketing materials in bars and restaurants that will educate community members and bring awareness to the impact that the Clean Air Law has had on the Maryland community. Additionally, youth volunteers will distribute marketing materials in schools educating students on the risks associated with vaping.
The current date and time are for a training session to learn more about the program.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Distribute outreach kits to local restaurants and schools
- Interact with the public to inform others about these initiatives
- Uphold goals of the initiatives
- Complete recaps and submit photos for all activities
We will be hosting a training session for volunteers on 10/2
Date: Tuesday, October 2, 2018
Time: 6:00pm - 7:00pm
Location: The 29th Street Community Center - 300 E. 29th St., Baltimore, MD 21218
- Be guided through the details of the outreach programs
- Practice marketing techniques
- Learn how to engage with the community
- Learn how to create brand awareness
- Training will include specifics of event responsibilities
Community Service Hours:
- Volunteers will be eligible to receive community service hours
Good Match For:
- High school students, young adults, and adults who care about community health
Requirements & Commitment:
- Must not be tobacco or e-cigarette users (including juuls and vapes)
- MUST attend training session

Mission Statement
The Center for Tobacco Prevention and Control works with community partners, state agencies, healthcare entities, resource centers, and local health departments to implement proven strategies to protect Maryland residents from tobacco-related death and disease.
Description
The overall goals for the Center are to:
- Prevent youth and young adults from ever using tobacco products
- Provide resources to assist residents who are ready to quit using tobacco
- Eliminate exposure to harmful toxins found in secondhand smoke
- Identify and eliminate health disparities among population groups disproportionately affected by tobacco-related death and disease.
Maryland has made great strides in reducing tobacco use and its harmful effects.
- Rates of tobacco use among Maryland adults and youth have decreased since 2000.
- Exposure to secondhand smoke has declined due to state and local laws prohibiting smoking inside public places (restaurants, bars, workplaces, transit)
- The number of Maryland residents who have never smoked has increased.
