Do you enjoy reading children's books, are animated, and enjoy playing a thematic role? The Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House is looking for volunteers to play the role of "Little Miss Muffet". As Miss Muffet you will read a children's book and then display to visitors an arachnid (could be a tarantula, a jumping spider, or some other type of spider). Volunteers should keep the following in mind:

  • The arachnid will not be held by the presenter or by the public; The presenter will simply hold the animal's enclosure for everyone to view.
  • No prior animal handling experience is necessary, however, volunteers should be comfortable holding the animal's display tank.
  • No prior arachnid knowledge is necessary, facts about the display animal will be provided by the Butterfly House.

Little Miss Muffet will be reading stories to children at the Butterfly House every morning (that we are open). The volunteer shifts will be 10am until 11:45am. The Butterfly House is open Tuesdays through Sundays (only closed on Mondays). If interested please provide a list of dates in which you are available to help.
