Building Lives Around Strong Truth (B.L.A.S.T) is a mobile afterschool drop-in program for homeless and at risk young adults ages 12 to 24 from 2pm until 5:00pm at Brooklyn Park Community Library. We provide basic needs such as food, water, and clothing, for underserviced youth and young adults. As well as exceeding basic needs by making positive life changes and building leadership potential through self-care, important life lessons, problem solving, assisting with schoolwork, and job readiness.

On Wednesday B.L.A.S.T is a less structured day for youth. Video game systems, board games, ping pong and open topic discussions allow volunteers to build positive and meaningful relationships with the population we serve. Wednesdays we have an Activity Van come to B.L.A.S.T so we can bring youth outside. Wednesday allows volunteers and mentors to get to know our young adults as individuals, to find their strengths and take note of what a young adult needs.

Thursday’s at B.L.A.S.T are structured. Through mentorship, educational programs, homework help, and closed topic discussions; Thursday is about giving young adults tools to be able to go out into the outside world and be able to make positive and healthy decisions. Educational programs allow us to pour into these young adults lives, as well as inspire and equip them with life changing information.

PLEASE CONTACT Derric Wright directly at derric@i5serve.com to volunteer.

Mission Statement

THE MISSION: IMPACT THE WORLD BY SERVING THE PRACTICAL NEEDS OF OTHERS. i5 SERVE is the community outreach arm of i5 CITY. We are committed to being the tangible hands and feet of Christ by impacting the world through the 5: Food, Water, Shelter, Clothing & Care! For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ (Mathew 25:35-36)

Description

HOMELESS MOBILE SERVICE UNIT Need: In Anne Arundel County the homeless often suffer from the lack of ability to access even the most basic needs. Unlike urban centers, suburban areas do not have the resources or the transportation needed for those who find themselves on the street in a homeless situation. Anne Arundel County has of a half a million residents, with limited resources for the homeless. What we do: Each month mobile service unit goes out to multiple locations where they homeless live and administer the services. Our trailer is fully portable and can literally pull up anywhere without needing access to power. We are also able to use this trailer as disaster relief service unit as needed. We just started Mobile Drop-in / Afterschool Program. On Wednesday and Thursday from 2:30 to 5:00 both days in a library please contact the office for more info!
