Each week StandUp For Kids Chicago opens the doors of its Lakeview drop-in center to over 100 homeless teens for a meal, access to necessities, and a listening ear. We are specifically looking for volunteer groups to donate or bring pre-prepared meals to our center on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings between 5-6:30pm.

We like to think of these as an opportunity for friends to get together, make a simple nutritious meal for about 25-30 teens, and as a group deliver that meal to our Lakeview drop-in center to share with our youth. We welcome work friends, community groups, just plain friends, and others to join together, have some fun, and do some good at the same time. For more details about either one-off or ongoing donations, please contact chicago@standupforkids.org

About StandUp for Kids - Chicago, IL

Location:

3614 North Ashland Ave, 1st floor, Chicago, IL 60613, US

Mission Statement

Ending the cycle of youth homelessness. We do this in cities across America, one youth at a time.

Description

In 2009, a handful of volunteers were moved to start the Chicago chapter of StandUp for Kids by making sandwiches in a Lakeview church basement. Along with providing street outreach services, we have a safe drop-in center (2012) for our Chicago’s homeless youth to relax and socialize, as well as a hot meal and access to our closet to obtain much needed clothing and personal items. Further, the youth have access to our volunteers who are there to help to the best of their ability with homework, and/or interview training, mentoring, counseling and emotional support.

We seek volunteers for our drop in center evenings (Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday) as well as volunteer groups who would like to supply meals to our youth.
