- A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
Spend a day improving local hiking trails. Learn how you can reduce the impact of invasive plants on wildlife.
Do you enjoy being outside in nature and don’t mind working hard? Join the Gunpowder Valley Conservancy for a meaningful way to give back on National Public Lands Day, Saturday September 29. This hands-on learning experience will focus on the proper techniques of trail maintenance and invasive plant removal. Volunteers will be split into two groups:
- Trail Maintenance: Learn the proper techniques, such as rock armoring and rolling grade dips, to prevent sediment erosion and improve water quality.
- Invasive Plant Removal: Learn about common invasive plants that interfere with the health of our forests, methods for removal, and then plant native plants that benefit local wildlife.
Workshop eligible for community service learning hours. Advanced registration required by September 27. Space limited to 30 volunteers. Appropriate for ages 12+.
This FREE workshop is coordinated by the Gunpowder Valley Conservancy (GVC) with funding by REI. Technical assistance by MD DNR/Gunpowder Falls State Park
