stoPD (Support and Training to Overcome Parkinson’s Disease) is seeking volunteers for its exercise programs for Parkinson’s patients in West Los Angeles.
We are in need of volunteers who can assist our trainers during group boxing classes exclusively geared toward Parkinson’s patients.
Duties:
- Assist our clients who may need more attention during class, due to poor balance or cognitive issues
- Help clients get ready for class. This may entail helping them wrap their hands and other simple tasks, but mostly making them feel welcome and engaged.
- Help clients after class and make sure that they don’t forget their gear or anything else
- Basic understanding of aging related issues and movement disorders
- Athletic background, preferably functional training, boxing or MMA
- Experience with special needs and elderly students
- Reliability
- Being local to West Los Angeles (Brentwood, Westwood, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Venice, etc.) or able to commute

stoPD is a 501(3)(c) public non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for people living with Parkinson’s disease. We provide support, intense exercise programs, arts programs, and education to encourage proactivity and a positive shift in perspective toward the future. Our strategic intervention is integrated and personalized to improve self-confidence and social interactions. We are committed to: -Granting scholarships for our intense exercise programs, -Raising funds for clinical trials to support the implementation of exercise regimens as part of Parkinson’s treatment, and -Developing new programs specifically geared towards improving Parkinson’s motor and non-motor symptoms. Our mission is to give those afflicted with Parkinson’s the tools and support they need to achieve a higher quality of life.
Description
stoPD (support and training to overcome Parkinson’s Disease) is 501(c)(3) non-profit founded in 2014 by Dr. Roberta Marongiu and Alex Montaldo. We offer programming to the Parkinson’s communities in Los Angeles and New York. We believe that programs for people with Parkinson’s disease should be conceived, developed, and run by Parkinson’s experts who know the disease and its motor and non-motor symptoms. Roberta has over 15 years of experience in Parkinson’s research and Alex has a Master’s degree in clinical psychology, plus extensive physical and vocal training.
stoPD’s programs have been featured in both national and local news media. stoPD is a National Parkinson Foundation and HollyRod Foundation grant recipient.
