Each November, during its annual Art & Nature festival, Laguna Art Museum presents a commissioned outdoor work of art on the theme of art’s engagement with the natural world. The commissioned artist for 2018 is Elizabeth Turk, and her piece is a performance piece that will occur on Saturday November 3 at sunset on Main Beach, Laguna Beach. The piece is titled The Shoreline Project and will involve 1,000 volunteer participants moving across the shoreline holding umbrellas that are specially designed by the artist and that light up as the sun sets. Each of the 1,000 participants will also get to keep his/her umbrella after the performance! The hope is that participants from across all demographics will come together for this special moment. Here is what Elizabeth Turk has to say about the piece:

"We are in a period celebrating difference; this inspired us to create art which champions commonality and open doors to thinking differently. The goal of the 'Shoreline Project' is to create experiences where strangers become neighbors and remember optimism along the way."

If interested, contact Kristen Anthony at Laguna Art Museum for details on how to register.
