VAB is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization registered in the State of New York. It is headquartered in Irvington, NY, and its executing agency, VAB Bangladesh, operates from the capital city Dhaka

Mission Statement

Volunteers Association for Bangladesh (VAB) is firmly committed to improving the economic and social well-being of rural people of Bangladesh. VAB recognizes that providing access and support to sustain high school education by students from poorer families is the most appropriate way to alleviate poverty and bring about meaningful changes at the family level and eventually at the societal level. VAB improves the education of poor students from rural Bangladesh by providing scholarships, tutoring, teachers’ training, and equipment. VAB’s focus is high school education, but it also supports colleges. VAB’s first scholarship recipients are now in universities, professional institutions, or starting their careers.

Description

Volunteers Association for Bangladesh (VAB) aims at empowering poor children of rural Bangladesh to have a brighter future. VAB helps them gain quality high school education and vocational skills training. VAB was established in 1998 and is a non-profit charity registered in New York and Bangladesh.

VAB supports Bangladesh’s public and secular education system. Individual programs have been developed within the framework of a multi-faceted and integrated Model for Quality Education in Rural Bangladesh, commonly known as the VAB Model. Individual programs include scholarships and tutoring help to students, teachers’ training, providing school equipment, and promoting linkages between schools and local communities. The programs improve test scores, lower dropout rates, and ultimately provide opportunities to obtain a better standard of living for students.

VAB works in partnership with rural high schools, teachers, parents, community members, students and former students to create purpose, community ownership and an active desire to improve the quality of education children receive. VAB has helped more than 50,000 young men and women and their families in rural areas of Bangladesh to overcome poverty. VAB’s mission is now moving forward with greater strength and higher hopes.
