VIDA (Volunteers in Defense of Animals)

We are looking to add some more volunteers to our team! If you have previous experience in the veterinary field (RVT, training to become an RVT or veterinarian, veterinary assistant, or if you're looking to enter the field), we are looking for volunteers who can come in on a weekly basis (or every 2 weeks) to help "age" our dogs and cats as well as evaluate their personalities / behaviors.

When we get new dogs and cats (which is about every week), we get their photos taken and need to get them posted soon if they are ready for adoption. The best times to come in would be the mornings on the weekend or anytime during the week from 10 AM - 4 PM.

Aging Animals: We age animals based on their teeth, so you will need to have some previous knowledge about determining the age of a dog, cat, puppy, or kitten. Different developmental stages in kittens and puppies will show through the development of their teeth, and wear/tear/tartar buildup on adult cat and dog teeth may indicate older age. You will also need to indicate whether an animal is a male or female.
Writing Bios: We only need a little bit of information about each cat and dog. Small notes such as "good with dogs, good with cats, walks well on a leash, needs work on leash training, enjoys soft treats, loves walks, loves to be pet, friendly to all, favorite toys are stuffy toys" are perfect!
Naming Animals: From time to time, you will also be able to name the animals! We always go for simple, cute names.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to protect and help dogs and cats from homelessness neglect, abuse, cruelty and abandonment. VIDA does not belong to any one person but instead to all of its volunteers. We adopt out about 50-60 cats and dogs per month - we rescue dogs from high-kill shelters, low income neighborhoods, and from the streets of Mexico. We also have spay and neuter operations and have saved thousands of animals already. www.vida4animals.org www.instagram.com/vidarescue www.facebook.com/vidarescue

Description

Volunteers in Defense of Animals is a non-profit organization working to end the suffering and mistreatment of dogs and cats in Southern California. We bring spay and neuter services to areas where families cannot afford them; we facilitate the rescue, foster care, and adoption of animals whenever possible, and we offer education and support to those involved in the care of animals.

We have found forever homes for hundreds of dogs and cats, with around 4-5 new adoptions taking place each week. Many of our dogs come from local high-kill shelters before they are euthanized and on the streets of both the US and Mexico. We also have spay/neuter operations in low-income neighborhoods in the US and in Mexico and have spayed/neutered thousands of pets.
