Kensington Hospice is a not-for-profit, volunteer based, community organization providing care to individuals and their families at end-of-life, in a home-like environment. The team of dedicated staff and volunteers of Kensington Hospice strive to support the physical, psychological and existential challenges experienced when approaching end-of-life. Bereavement after care is also offered to families. Services are delivered with the commitment to conserve dignity and quality of life during a difficult time. As a not-for-profit organization, our team of volunteers play an important role through their volunteer service in meeting the needs of 10 palliative individuals and their families.

Volunteers working most closely with residents and families are in the role titled Resident & Family Care Volunteers. Resident & Family Care Volunteers contribute to making the Hospice a space where people can feel comfortable to live, laugh, cry or just be with their families and friends while receiving quality care from staff and volunteers as they journey to end of life. Resident & Family Care Volunteers support the nursing staff with some practical aspects of care including repositioning residents or transfers, delivering meal trays, assisting to feed residents, folding laundry or responding to call bells. Volunteers support families by demonstrating Hospice hospitality which may involve making tea and coffee for visitors or offering a home-made bowl of soup to loved ones spending long days at the bed-side.

We request a minimum 1 year commitment from the time of commencing volunteering after completion of the training for volunteers in the Resident & Family Care Volunteer position.
