Italian Speaking Volunteer Needed for Hospice Companionship

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Loyola Medicine Hospice

Loyola Medicine Hospice has a need for an individual who can speak Italian to sit with a hospice patient in Schiller Park at a time convenient to you for an hour or two and speak to him in Italian. This is an opportunity to get to know this man, talk to him about his life, likes and dislikes, and whatever else you two care to discuss.

The man's wife is looking for her husband to not be alone as much since she cannot be with him all the time. All you need to do is sit and talk. Patient also speaks English but would like to talk in his native Italian in the last days of his life.

Mission Statement

We are a Trinity Home Health Services agency. We serve together in the spirit of the Gospel as a compassionate and transforming healing presence within our communities.

Description

For patients experiencing life-limiting illnesses or injuries, Loyola Medicine’s hospice program provides compassionate and comprehensive care to adult and pediatric patients. Hospice care is for patients with terminal illness or injury and intended to provide comfort and relief from pain, allowing for the highest quality of life possible during the time that remains.

Loyola’s skilled doctors, nurses, therapists, chaplains and home health aides provide care that focuses not only on medical issues, but also emotional and spiritual needs. Care is provided in the patient's home, with inpatient care for symptom control and pain management provided at Loyola University Medical Center. Respite care is provided at skilled nursing facilities or at long-term care facilities in the community.

Loyola’s hospice team also provides support for the patient’s family, providing counseling, comfort and guidance on caring for your loved one with dignity. Loyola’s hospice care team is available 24/7.

Loyola’s Home Health Services and Hospice Care is a Medicare-certified, Illinois Department of Public Health-licensed home care and hospice.
