ORGANIZATION: Building Skills Partnership

BSP is looking for VITA Volunteers to give back to their community. The VITA volunteer will meet janitorial workers and other community members on an appointment basis to help complete and file their tax return via computer. If preparing taxes is not for you, you can still support on-site by doing quality reviews, being a floater, or even a greeter!

VITA volunteers must be willing to volunteer throughout the entire duration of the tax season: January 29, 2019- April 17, 2019. In addition, volunteers must complete tax training (on-line or in person) and pass the certification exam. All training will be provided in collaboration with the IRS and United Way of the Bay Area to ensure that you are supported every step of the way.

***The start date is set for October because our volunteer orientation and training takes place in the Fall. More information to be confirmed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Study for and pass VITA Exam (All materials will provided)
  • Be available to volunteer on Saturdays for at least 2 hours
  • Be meticulous and detailed oriented
  • Inform tax payers about financial capability services available (More info during orientation)

Volunteer Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in Spanish/English preffered
  • Flexibility, strong organization skills, and attention to detail
  • Strong intercultural communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds

The Building Skills Partnership (BSP) represents a unique non-profit collaboration between the property service workers’ union Service Employees International Union - United Service Workers West (SEIU- USWW), commercial building owners, property service employers, client companies and community leaders. BSP offers comprehensive programs tailored to the diverse needs of the community. Our core strategies leverage workforce development, immigrant integration, and community advancement. We have seven offices across the state of California from Sacramento to San Diego. Building Skills Partnership program areas and its curriculum play a key role in driving the productivity and competitiveness of the industry and contributing to the economic and social development of our communities throughout the state.
