Want to make a life-saving difference but like the idea of a flexible volunteer schedule? As a Community Blood Center Critical-Need Volunteer Driver, you will be called periodically for same-day delivery of blood to hospitals with urgent supply needs in areas outside of the KC Metro. Ideal for volunteers who have good driving records and are looking for a flexible volunteer schedule.
We provide the training, vehicle, fuel, candy bars and fun -- you bring the good driving skills, time and dedication. Families, couples and friends are welcome to work as teams of 2. Join us today!
Schedules are flexible --- we will only call you on the days/times you tell us you are generally available. Most deliveries take 2-to-5 hours, round-trip. We ask that you try to help at least one time per month for a minimum of six months. Same-day deliveries generally take place Mon-Fri sometime between 7:00am - 7:00pm but we also need regular weekend delivery drivers.(NOTE: We also have regular weekend driving shifts for volunteers only available on weekends and willing to commit to a regular shift.)
To become a Critical-Need Driver, you would need to be at least 21 years of age, able to lift 35 lbs.. You must complete an application, participate in an interview, background/MVR check and attend training and a ride-along. Kansas law requires a standard drivers license. Missouri law requires a Class E license or higher (if you need to get a Class E we reimburse the $35 license cost after 6 months of service,) Couples can volunteer together but both need to complete training.
