A Junior Achievement Day at Annie Pennycook Elementary School in Vallejo California. Volunteers will teach 5, 45 minute lessons in one day. The curriculum is on financial literacy, workplace readiness and entrepreneurship with hands-on activities. Volunteers may teach a class individually or paired with a colleague to "Team Teach".
Where: Annie Pennycook Elementary School MLK/Lafayette Elementary School is located at 3620 Fernwood Avenue, Vallejo, CA 94591 and part of the Vallejo Unified School District.
School demographics overview: African American 25.5%, American Indian or Alaska Native 0.5%, Asian 3%, Filipino 15.5%, Hispanic or Latino 28.2%, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander 3.2%, White 14%, Two or More Races 6%. English Learners 14% and Free and Reduced Lunch 65.8%
When: Thursday, January 24, 2019. Volunteers check in at the school office at 8:10 am and will be welcomed by JA staff and school staff . Instruction will begin at 8:30 am. A bell schedule will be sent to you after you sign up to reflect grade level schedule.
Volunteerism: All new JA volunteers will need to complete a one hour JA training prior to the JA Day. The meeting time will be sent to you by Stacey Martin-Bonaduce or your workplace's volunteer coordinator. All new and returning JA volunteers will need to complete an updated JA Volunteer Registration Form prior to the JA Day as well. JA program materials will be provided during the training time so you have at least a week or two to prepare. Please use your professional email when signing up to teach a class. A number of volunteer sources are helping to fill the classes at the school.
