Lanterns

Set at dusk, Light The Night is an unique community event that features beautiful lanterns to honor those we lost in the battle against blood cancers as well as to celebrate those still among us. During this night of awareness, inspiration and celebration, walkers illuminate the night sky with iconic lanterns that represent their personal connection - white for survivorship, red for supporters, and gold for remembrance.

Last year, 6,700 New Yorkers gathered in our three Light the Night walks and raised $2.8 million dollars towards a cure and that could have never been accomplished without the support of hundreds of wonderful volunteers!

For this event, some of our volunteer duties include: set up, walker check-in, T-shirt pick-up duty, lantern assembly, walk route marshalling/support, food/refreshment tent duty, swab station duty, clean-up, VIP tents duty, directional support, and as needed.

All registered and committed volunteers will be provided with training, food, and a T-shirt on event-day.

Mission Statement

The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

We work tirelessly to find cures and ensure patients can access the lifesaving treatments they need. When someone experiences the fear and uncertainty of a blood cancer diagnosis, we provide hope, compassion, education and support. Our impact is felt beyond blood cancer. The breakthrough treatments we helped advance for blood cancers are now improving the lives of people affected by many types of cancer.

Description

Volunteers are our partners in the crusade to end cancer.

In 2017, LLS volunteers made a significant impact while selflessly dedicating their time and talent to achieve our mission. With countless ways to engage, from fundraising to providing patient support, our volunteers are changing the landscape of cancer.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's New York City Chapter was founded to serve residents who have been touched by one of the blood cancers: leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. The chapter serves the five boroughs of New York City.
