Sojourn Hospice invites you to become a Hospice Volunteer!
Volunteers serve our clients receiving End of Life Care and their families. Hospice Volunteers receive initial and ongoing training for cultivating skills to provide compassionate presence and support to people in their last stages of life. Typical assignments include:
- Weekly visits to provide companionship and conversation,
- Reading to clients,
- Emotional and practical support to family caregivers
- Watering plants,
- Walking a pet
- "Being there" when a listening ear is needed
- If you have special skills such as aromatherapy, Reiki, massage therapy, musical instruments, etc.
Our Service Areas include Santa Clara County, San Mateo County, East Bay and Peninsula areas. Training is provided locally.
We ask for a commitment of 4 hours a week (minimum) for at least one year. Hours and days of service vary according to volunteer availability and client need. Degrees and prior experience are not required. You must be 18 years of age, care about people and have a sincere desire to be of service to others.

Description
Sojourn Hospice, a program of Healthy Living, Inc., is a hospice serving Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. We are dedicated to supporting individuals and their families on the journey through the final stages of life. The physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental challenges specific to this experience can be overwhelming for the family and the person with a terminal illness. Sojourn Hospice volunteers receive specialized training in providing compassionate presence and practical support to the individual and the family. Simple human kindness is especially valued and appreciated in these difficult times. Providing even brief moments of relief for patients and their families is so needed and appreciated by those receiving End Of Life care. The rewards of participating in a community joining as a compassionate circle of support can be profound and life changing for all.
