ORGANIZATION

Partnerships for Trauma Recovery (PTR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing the psychosocial impacts of trauma among international survivors of human rights abuses including war, torture, forced displacement, human trafficking and persecution due to identity and beliefs. At our Bay Area-based Mosaic Healing Center, we: (a) Provide culturally aware, trauma-informed and linguistically accessible mental health care for refugees, asylees, asylum seekers and human trafficking survivors, (b) Expand clinical capacity to serve these populations, and (c) Advocate for policies to prevent trauma and re-traumatization. With combined expertise gained through over twenty years of providing clinical services to survivors of war trauma, torture and persecution, and in-depth experience implementing international human rights programming, our team integrates the fields of global mental health and human rights to expand the range - and increase the depth - of psychosocial support for this highly vulnerable population.

POSITION

This is an exciting opportunity to join a nonprofit organization working at the nexus of human rights and global mental health. PTR is currently in the midst of a planning process to scale both our advocacy and training programs. PTR currently offers trainings for individuals who are working with refugees and asylum seekers, and experiencing the effects of their clients’ trauma on their own well-being. Trainings can last 1-2 hours to half a day. The goals of expanding training programs are to reach a broader audience, and to strengthen the ability of attorneys and other professionals to offer trauma-informed care to clients. This position will work closely with the Executive Director to conduct a field survey of other organizations conducting trauma-informed trainings for attorneys and other professionals who are supporting refugees, asylum seekers, and other international survivors of human rights abuses.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities of the Training Research Intern include but are not limited to the following:

  • Identify organizations offering trauma-informed training to attorneys, clinicians, law enforcement personnel, and other professionals working with refugees, asylum seekers, or other groups representative of PTR’s client population.
  • Conduct research both through web searches and by holding key informant interviews with staff members at other organizations conducting training efforts.
  • For each organization offering training, identify the length of trainings available, the audience, content covered, goal of the training, and other relevant variables.
  • Identify strong training programs that could potentially be adapted for PTR’s client population.
  • Deliverable: a guide of organizations conducting training efforts, and summary of key findings, to be provided in written form, as well as during a formal presentation to key stakeholders at PTR.
