LLS - North Texas Chapter is seeking 30 outstanding volunteers to volunteer for The Showdown Half Marathon and 5K on Saturday, October 6th

The Active Joe and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society - North Texas maintain an exciting partnership that benefits both organizations! By volunteering for this (and various other) races/athletic events sponsored by The Active Joe through LLS, they will donate funds and resources to our chapter to further fight to bring an end to blood cancer completely. Help two outstanding North Texas organizations/causes by participating in one volunteer event!

Race DESCRIPTION

Our seventh annual event! This race is a beautiful looped course through the countryside and past gorgeous homes.

You get the option to pick your favorite team for the day's big game and get your race swag in your team's colors! Then, once you finish, you'll have quality options to choose a place to cheer on your team for the big game!

The Big Game?

Yes, this race is the morning of that lil' ole annual gridiron clash between the University of Texas and The University of Oklahoma. Show your team spirit on race day and then we'll give you information on where to find food, drinks and of course, a big screen TV so you can cheer your favorite team on to victory without leaving the race site!

Distances

There will be a half marathon (13.1 miles), a 5K (3.1 miles), and a Kids' 100 Yard Dash on race day. The Kids' 100 Yard Dash starts before both longer distance races so that the whole family and ALL the participants can cheer on these kids. Then, the 5K starts and finishes while the half marathon is going on, so this is great for friends and family waiting for a half marathoner to finish!

Below is a list of shifts and details of shifts needed for the race. To officially register, please visit the link below to register through the LLS CERVIS volunteer registration site.

Mission Statement

The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. We work tirelessly to find cures and ensure patients can access the lifesaving treatments they need. When someone experiences the fear and uncertainty of a blood cancer diagnosis, we provide hope, compassion, education and support. Our impact is felt beyond blood cancer. The breakthrough treatments we helped advance for blood cancers are now improving the lives of people affected by many types of cancer.

Description

Volunteers are our partners in the crusade to end cancer.

In 2017, LLS volunteers made a significant impact while selflessly dedicating their time and talent to achieve our mission. With countless ways to engage, from fundraising to providing patient support, our volunteers are changing the landscape of cancer.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Oklahoma Chapter serves residents who have been touched by one of the blood cancers: leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
