Be inspired by the next generation of innovators and leaders, re-energize your own creativity, and make lifelong friends by volunteering as an Illinois Destination Imagination Appraiser!

They’re called ApPRAISErs because their job is to PRAISE the accomplishments of each team, and to AWARD as many points as possible. In Destination Imagination, the emphasis is on what each team produced, not on what they failed to produce.

Appraisal Team Member criteria:

  • Must be at least 18 to perform a scoring role
  • Appraising is a two-day commitment. One onsite Saturday training session in Gurnee,IL early February 2nd, 2019 and Regional Tournament in Gurnee,IL March 2nd,2019. Training is mandatory.
  • To ensure transparent and fair scoring at each Challenge site, Appraisers may only leave during scheduled breaks. This means Appraisers will not get to see a specific team perform.
  • Appraisers may not be assigned to their own child/family member's challenge site.
  • Appraisers will receive a nifty Tee and an official’s luncheon and snacks on tournament day!

Description

Destination ImagiNation, Inc. (DII) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization active in 50 states and 41 countries/provinces. It is supported mainly by > 35,000 volunteers. DII is celebrating our 26 year anniversary of promoting innovation and creative problem-solving, operating under the names Odyssey of the Mind Association, Inc. and since 1999 as Destination ImagiNation, Inc. The goals of DII are to foster creative and critical thinking; to help participants learn and apply creative problem solving methods and tools; to develop teamwork, collaboration, and leadership skills; to nurture research and inquiry skills including both creative exploration and attention to detail; to promote the recognition, use, and development of many and varied strengths and talents; to encourage competence in, enthusiasm for, and commitment to real-life problem solving; and to foster mutual respect. DII's work inspires children and adults to develop and showcase their creativity, talents, and interests while generating a love of learning about science, technology, and theater.
