Join staff in removing invasive non-native plant species from Durant Nature Preserve.
Impact: Invasive species out-compete the native plants that our animals rely on for food and shelter. By removing these problem plants we are giving our native species a chance to grow.
volunteer Duties: Possible cutting and/or digging out of invasive species. Dragging and stacking of cut plant material.
Special Information: Please bring a water bottle, wear sturdy close-toed shoes and clothing you can get dirty. We will supply the tools and work-gloves.
Date / Time of Shifts: There are multiple shifts available to register for. Please see below:
9/8/18 - 9 am - 12 pm
11/3/18 - 9 am - 12 pm
11/18/18 - 9 am - 12 pm
12/8/18 - 9 am - 12 pm
1/19/19 - 9 am - 12 pm
Work Environment: Project locations will be in the woods with uneven and maybe steep grounds and no paved paths to project site. Bathrooms will be on location. Possible interactions with wildlife.
Volunteer Requirements: Pre-registration is required. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old to volunteer. Adults must register and accompany children under the age of 16. Everyone who volunteers must sign a release form. If anyone is under the age of 18, then a parent or guardian must sign their form as well. These will be sent out to registered volunteers prior to the event.
Registration Information: Registration as a volunteer is first come, first served. A group leader must email mary.owen@raleighnc.gov to register. All groups will be required to provide a list of names and emails for their volunteers.
Per department policy, this volunteer opportunity is not to be used towards court-appointed/ suggested community service hours.
