Volunteer Tutor Position

The Access to Literacy program at Triton College is looking for compassionate and committed volunteers to work with adult ABE and ESL learners. Volunteer tutors are essential to our program as they support and teach adult learners important basic reading and writing skills. Schedules are flexible and sessions are held in a one-on-one or small group setting at the Triton library, local libraries, and online. Volunteers are provided with mandatory free pre-service training, have access to professional development opportunities, and receive support from the program coordinator.

Essential Duties

  • Prepare learner-centered lessons
  • Schedule meetings with learner(s)
  • Maintain a record of tutoring sessions, including materials used, lessons reviewed, learner progress
  • Prepare and submit monthly tutor logs
  • Attend monthly cohort meetings

Qualifications

  • 18 years of age and older
  • Commit to at least 1 year of tutoring, 2 hours per week
  • Respectful and exhibit professionalism when interacting with others and adheres to program expectations
  • Preferred - Experience planning lessons and teaching ; Proficient with technology
