In the United States, more than $13 billion in SNAP benefits (food stamps) go unclaimed each year because potential recipients don’t realize they are eligible for the program or have difficulty applying. mRelief is a tech non-profit that helps connect low-income Americans to SNAP by working directly with government partners to create an quick, accessible end-to-end enrollment process for the program.
We are looking for volunteers to come in to our office reguarly for a few hours a week to assist with outreach and operations tasks, including providing assistance to appilcants by phone and coordinating with government agencies.
Volunteers will be able to directly impact the ability of food-insecure families to put food on the table and will see how civic technology can be deployed to facilitate access to social services. Volunteer shifts will be 3-6 hours a week at mRelief’s office in the Loop. We will provide training, support, and snacks. This is an unpaid position.
For more about our work, visit mrelief.com.
