About the Stewardship Site:
Located just over Ute Pass from Summit County in neighboring Grand County, The South Fork Trail, and the greater Williams Fork area, provide a special type of recreational opportunity. The remote location of the trail provides a wilderness experience that is removed from many of the increasingly popular areas. However, the trail is outside of the wilderness and a full multi-use resource that is easily accessible from the Silverthorne/Dillon area. The trail makes a 24 mile loop that travels through dense forest, beautiful meadows and the high alpine. It is popular with hikers, backpackers and horseback riders.
About the Volunteer Experience:
Volunteers will work on various maintenance needs over the weekend, with some worksites being located up to a few miles from the trailhead. Tasks will include turnpike construction to carry the tread through wet areas and meadows, drainage structure installation and repair and potentially some minor trail reroutes
About the Overall Impact:
The Sulphur Ranger District (USFS) has identified the trail as one that could see increased use in the coming years, and it's important to ensure that it receives appropriate maintenance in the coming years.
