Each night in the U.S., 17.4 million families go to bed hungry. An additional 6.9 million families experience very low food security. That means they don't always know where their next meal is coming from. By offering access to free fresh produce and canned goods, we provide valuable meal supplementation while helping those in need maintain their independence and dignity.

Schedule: Tuesday- Friday 10 am to 1 pm

Position Overview:

Each month we provide hundreds of warm and nutritious meals to the Riverhead community and we are currently seeking a compassionate volunteer to join our our dedicated kitchen volunteer staff who can commit to 4 days a week.

Volunteers would be greeting guests, serving food, and cleaning the serving and prep areas. Most importantly we treat ALL of our guests with dignity and respect, and as a volunteer this is your most important responsibility.

Daily Responsibilities:

• Greeting attendees with a warm heart and big smile
• Preparing bread cart with food donations
• Aiding in meal preparations for the day’s lunch
• Setting up the lunchroom for service
• Signing in guests as they arrive
• Assist in serving lunch
• Pouring drinks
• Cleaning the meal prep station after the meal is served

• Record temperature logs of both rooms and all fridge and freezers
• Maintain the FIFO (first in first out) labeling of all food in stock
• Stock the soup kitchen pantry
• Making sure all food is in date and properly sealed and stored

Monthly Responsibilities:

• Maintain a running list of food or supplies that are in need of a re-stock
