The Horry County Literacy Council (HCLC) is seeking volunteers to join our non-profit and make a difference in your community! We are seeking tutors/volunteers for BOTH Horry County AND now Georgetown County!
What is HCLC and what do we provide? Our mission is to improve the lives of youth, adults, and families by teaching basic literacy and life skills for economic and social success.
VOLUNTEER TUTOR OPENINGS - several options
- Meet one-to-one with students after school hours; focus on literacy. Youth performing below grade level in reading, spelling and writing ( mee in the closest public library)
- Meet with a small group of elementary school students during a community After School Recreation Center program to help with homework or literacy support ( This ends in May and resumes in September)
- Adult GED preparation one-to-one tutoring
- English as a Second Language (ESL adult and children)
- Read & Create program in Horry County or Georgetown County
Your volunteer time commitment is based on the type of volunteer activity you choose. All volunteers attend an Orientation session, and obtain background checks. Typically, most tutors volunteer 1-2 hours per week. To be most effective, HCLC would prefer those who can commit to a minimum of 6 months.
We look forward to hearing from you!
All tutoring sessions occur at public libraries (in Horry County & Georgetown County) chosen by the volunteer tutor and student!
