Adult GED preparation one-to-one tutoring
Volunteer time commitment based on the type of volunteer activity. All volunteers attend an Orientation session, obtain background checks, and participate in ongoing free training. Typically, 2 hours per week. It can be 1 hour, twice a week (preferred) or 2 hours once a week. Would prefer those who can commit to a minimum of 6 months.
Tutoring sessions occur at public libraries chosen by the volunteer tutor and student!

Horry County Literacy Council (HCLC) originated in 1976, gained 501(c)3 and nonprofit status in 1981 and obtained accreditation status with ProLiteracy, a nationally recognized organization, in 2012. HCLC volunteers provide free one on one tutoring and materials to youth and adults who could otherwise not afford these services. HCLC has expanded over time to provide multiple programs: Adult Basic Literacy for those reading below a fifth-grade level GED(r) preparation English as a Second Language learning difficulties, such as dyslexia Health Literacy Read & Create
