Position Status : 12-Month Volunteer Internship - 10 Hours Per Week Minimum


Position Summary:

The Grant Writer is responsible for revenue generation through effective management of our grant research, writing and foundation relationship cultivation with corporate and private foundation partners. Reporting to the Operations Manager as part of a growing non-profit team, the Grant Writer secures gifts, grants, and sponsorships in support of events, programs, and organizational priorities. There must be an internal drive to help people less fortunate, in this case by giving clean water to prevent sickness and death.


Responsibilities:

  • Research prospective grantors that share a vision of helping people get access to clean water
  • Work with Operations Manager to help cultivate corporate and private foundation relationships through general communication and in-person meetings
  • Strategize with senior staff on corporate and private foundation cultivation and solicitation
  • Develop a comprehensive corporate and private foundation recognition program
  • Develop policies, as needed, and enforce a standardized research process within the department for prospective grantors
  • Develop a system for writing grants that categorizes different sections of a grant for the different programs offered to create a systematic approach to grant writing.
  • Write all grant requests/progress reports and prepare all supporting documentation
  • Manage application and report deadlines and annual schedule
  • Assist Operations Manager in personally managing relationships and the solicitation process for select prospects

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in journalism, communications, nonprofit management, marketing, business, or similar field; in lieu of a Bachelor’s, an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a field similar to grant writing where writing is a major component.
  • Ability to produce a quality product in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
  • Self-motivated person with the ability to move projects forward with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately and with discretion
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Dedication to promoting the organization’s fundraising priorities by developing excellent relationships with key volunteers, Board Members and organization leadership
  • Comfortable regularly interacting with high-level community leaders with tact and composure
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to work under pressure, balance competing priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and database knowledge preferable; knowledge of donor CRM software desirable (eTapestry, Raiser’s Edge, DonorPerfect, Donor Quest, Salesforce, etc.)
