NGSS STEM Curriculum Development Specialist

The NGSS STEM Curriculum Development Volunteer must be an energetic, collaborative, and creative individual with a passion and expertise for developing and implementing NGSS curriculum and education initiatives for students and teachers. This individual will help the organization achieve its goals, meet project and program objectives and apply best practice.

This position is a temporary, part-time position, no more than 10 hours per week. Flexible work arrangement which may include work from home, virtual access.

Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable Research, develop and write integrative and innovative NGSS curriculum and model lessons for grades K-5 or 6-12.

  • Design NGSS STEM Curriculum for our educators (pre-service, in-service, student leaders, informal educators)
  • Collaborate with other curriculum and professional development specialists to ensure comprehensive and consistent deliverables
  • Communicate regularly with the NGSS project leaders on progress and challenges
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Volunteers may be asked to collaborate with other volunteers or instructors

Qualifications

The required skills and experience for this position include, but are not necessarily limited to:

  • Preferably a Master’s Degree in education or a STEM related-field
  • Preferably a minimum of three years of K-12 formal or informal teaching experience
  • Demonstrated experience developing hands-on and minds-on STEM activities
  • Teacher leader experience in the area of curriculum
  • Working knowledge of NGSS, with a focus on cross-cutting concepts, science and engineering practices, and disciplinary core ideas
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with a variety of individual and diverse populations
  • Technology competencies to be able to work from home and commute remotely
  • Flexibility, self-direction, creativity, attention to detail and time management
  • Ability to meet deadlines

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with under-represented populations
  • 5 years’ experience teaching Pre-K-5th grade
  • Working knowledge of Common Core standards
  • Experience developing and presenting teacher professional development
  • Teaching experience in a Title 1 school
  • Comfort with online learning platforms and use of technology

Description

Girls For Technology, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization after-school program committed to closing the gender gap within STEM fields one girl at a time. We provide after-school, summer enrichment programs, and workshops for under-served, under-represented adolescent girls ages 11-17 in Greater Hartford, CT school district, and neighboring towns. Our main focus is to peak girls’ interest in technology and engineering. During the summer we offer STEM-ulating activities. At GFT, members have access to mentoring, tutoring, homework help, hands-on project based STEM activities, team building, field trips, public speaking training and leadership development. We partner with schools and other community providers to inspire girls to realize their potential in the fields Technology and Engineering.
