ORGANIZATION: Guadalupe River Park Conservancy

Guadalupe River Park Conservancy is looking for a passionate individual (or two!) who love the outdoors, and working with children ages 2 - 6 years old. We are specifically looking for someone who is able to provide supplemental instruction Spanish.

This opportunity is PERFECT for someone who is looking to get hands-on teaching experience with younger students. We are looking for someone who would enjoy engaging and teaching students ages 2 - 6 years old in Spanish, all while being enthusiastic and fun!

Depending on the availability and interest of the selected volunteers, individuals may choose to assist with curriculum development, planning, and marketing.

The minimum requirement is for volunteers to regularly attend the Friday class from 10:45 AM - 12:15 PM, to assist the instructors with the management and engagement of our students, and have fun!

We are hoping for long-term volunteers.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Engaging with students in the fun, environmental lessons in Spanish
  • Assist with presenting lessons to children in an outdoor setting in the Rotary PlayGarden
  • Assist our instructors and engage groups of 10-25 students at a time
  • Prepping materials for lessons and cleaning up after lessons are completed
  • If interested, assist in curriculum development and/or revision

Ideal Volunteer(s) will be:

  • A fluent Spanish speaker
  • At least 16 years old
  • Interested in early childhood education
  • Passionate about environmental education and working with children
  • Willing to volunteer outdoors
  • Positive and enthusiastic
  • Flexible and willing to take on a variety of tasks
  • Dedicated to the ideals stated in Guadalupe River Park Conservancy’s mission
  • An excellent and responsive communicator in written and oral mediums; preference will be given to those who are fluent in both English and Spanish

The Guadalupe River Park Conservancy provides community leadership for the development and active use of the Guadalupe River Park & Gardens through education, advocacy and stewardship. Past efforts by the Conservancy contributed to collaboration among government agencies and community interest groups seeking to solve problems related to the Guadalupe River flood control project. The Conservancy is continually involved in completing the master plans for both the park and gardens, creating educational programs, promoting awareness of the Park & Gardens, and developing membership and volunteer opportunities to increase public support and involvement.
