Refugees arriving in the United States typically do not have the ability to drive nor have knowledge of the transportation systems (be it buses, taxis, etc.). As a Transportation Training Volunteer, you will assist refugees in learning how to drive and navigate the bus system in Lincoln.
Requirements: Potential volunteers must pass a criminal background check. Volunteers may also need to provide a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance for a DMV check. This position is great for volunteers available to commit to bi-weekly or weekly tutoring sessions.

Lutheran Family Services (LFS) provides many services including counseling services, refugee resettlement & immigration services, and services for children including respite care, adoption and foster care. In 2003 LFS began offering international adoption. Many of their services are provided on a sliding scale fee.
Strong Urban Neighborhoods (SUN) offers community outreach to the Leavenworth neighborhood in Omaha and has many opportunities for volunteering including teaching assistants for ESL & GED classes, computer training class assistants and baby sitters.
