Communities In Schools of Tacoma

Can you inspire a student to stay on track and complete their assignments? Then we need you!

Oakland High School serves students aged 14-21, many of whom are credit-deficient and in need of extra help to complete their assignments. Academic coaches meet with students one-on-one or in small groups to help them stay focused and get their work done.

We are especially in need of academic coaches who can help in Math and English assignments. Make time today to help a student in your community be successful in school.

Help a student during lunctime 10:50-11:30am or Mondays & Wednesdays 11:30-12:50.

Due to Governor Inslee's amended proclamation 21-14.1, allDistrict employees, including on-site volunteers and contractors are required to be fully vaccinated by October 18. You were required to submit proof of vaccination or request an exemption along with your volunteer application form.

Schools are also implementing a number of other COVID-19 safety measures to protect students, employees, and volunteers. Masks are required to be worn in the building at all times. Social distancing of 3 feet is also currently in effect.

Communities In Schools is part of the 5th largest youth development organization in the country. We are the only ones proven to increase graduation rates AND decrease dropout rates.

We serve as the bridge between the student and the community, bringing in resources that help break down the barriers that students have to be successful in school.
