This month, as we celebrate Cesar Chavez and his legacy of service, over 100 youth in the San Diego foster care system are in need of their own advocate. These youth, removed from their home through no fault of their own, need just one caring, consistent adult to help ensure they get all that they need to thrive. Our volunteers spend just 10-15 hours each month on their case - but that dedicated time ensures that the needs of those youth are not overlooked and that they do not feel forgotten.

About Voices for Children
Location:

Mission Statement
Voices for Children transforms the lives of abused children in San Diego County by providing them with volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs). We believe that every child deserves a safe and permanent home, and to that end, will review and monitor every court file in the system, provide a CASA to every child in the foster care system who needs one, and advocate to improve the lives of San Diego County’s foster children.
Description
CASAs can change the trajectory of a foster child’s life. They focus on an individual child’s needs, working one-on-one with a child or set of siblings. They provide a source of consistency and stability, visiting with their case children at least once a month. CASAs gather information from files and reports and communicate with social workers, family members, school officials, and other professionals in the children’s lives. They use this information and firsthand observations to advocate for the children’s best interests in Court, as well as in other aspects of their lives, such as education, health, and living arrangements. No experience is necessary! We provide all the training you’ll need, as well as a dedicated staff supervisor to partner with you on the case. With just 10-15 hours a month, you can make a difference in the life of a foster child!
