The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is seeking volunteers to socially isolated veterans who need companionship.
Purpose: Building a meaningful relationship with them, and knowing that their volunteer service helps allow that person to age in place. Offers their families a respite break. No direct care giving! No transporting the client, toileting, or bathing them! Chat, tell stories, play card games, watch TV, go for a walk together.
Qualifications: Polite and friendly, compassionate, is willing to be trained, can pass a background check, has their own vehicle for transportation. No experience required.
Timeframe: 2 hours a week for at least 6 months. Exceptions for vacations and special occasions are always possible- just let the family you work with know you will be gone! Schedule is completely up to you and the family you are matched with.
Location of work: Anywhere in Washtenaw County. We pick families as geographically close as possible when matching volunteers to families.
