Typical activities as a board member include:

1. Interpret the organization’s work and values to the community, represent the organizations and act as a spokesperson when authorized by the board so to do;
2. Attend all meetings of the full board;
3. Chair or actively serve on at least one standing committee or task force;
4. Actively participate through one or more of the following:
   1. Attendance at events or programs involving SAFE;
   2. Arrangement for SAFE presentations to civic clubs, religious groups, business associates or groups or friends;
   3. Contact with no less than five individuals, foundations, businesses or civic groups to request financial support of SAFE;
   4. Invitation and accompaniment of a friend or associate to a meeting of the board or of the executive committee;
5. Contribute financially to the organization according to one’s ability;
6. Act in the best interest of SAFE and excuse myself from discussion and votes where I have a conflict of interest;
7. Stay informed by receiving and seeking information as needed in order to responsibly participate in decisions regarding issues, policies and other board matters;
8. Recommend potential nominees to the board who can make significant contributions to the work of SAFE;
9. Maintain good faith with staff, volunteers, board members and all other associated with SAFE;
10. Participate in board development, strategic planning and evaluation studies.
