Backpack Meal Program
Our Backpack Program provided more than 900,000 meals to students in local schools in 2018, ensuring children and their families did not go hungry on the weekends. We pack nutritious food into non-descript bags and deliver them to schools to get them into the hands of kids who need them most.

The primary responsibility of this volunteer position is to transport backpack meals from the Harold Clark Simmons Compassion Center to local schools for designated disadvantaged children and youth.

  1. Assist and lead weekly or biweekly backpack deliveries to local area schools to provide for needy food in-secure children and youth.
  2. Organize bagged meals as prescribed by needs list for weekly backpack deliveries.
  3. Coordinate process and assist in routes and best delivery schedule of backpacks to local area schools.
  4. Work with local schools for continued enhancement of partnership regarding serving children and families.
  5. Deliver food in a OMC van, truck, or using a personal vehicle (optional).

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide Christ-centered services to children and families in need.

Description

Our vision is to bring hope to hurting children, to show that the love of Jesus changes lives and to impact the life of one more child.

From the opening of our first orphanage in 1904 to our present-day ministries that have expanded to provide safe, stable, Christian homes and services to children and families in need across the state and around the globe, we are honored to be helping children in tangible ways. Whether it’s providing clean diapers to a newborn baby, food for a hungry child, safety for an abused child, or foster or adoptive homes to children in crisis, we work to share with children who have been abused, neglected and abandoned the protective and healing love of Jesus.

As we reflect on the last 115 years with thankfulness and awe, we look forward to a future filled with hope for children in need! Will you join the cause and become a part of our mission to help one more child? Visit our website to learn more about the many services we provide!
