I first met Vivian on a short-term trip to East Asia with East-West. Our paths crossed again when I returned on a longer assignment to teach English. Our relationship continued to grow as I spent time visiting with Vivian and another former student I had grown close to. Vivian surprised me nearly a year later when she called asking if I knew of a school in my city. As it turns out, the university is only a 10-minute drive from my house. She then informed me that her husband planned to attend the university, and she was going to visit him during her winter break. She arrived in my town in January and I invited her to attend ESL conversation and Bible study classes. Vivian heard about Jesus when we first met and then again when one of her friends who came to faith during that trip invited her to a local church. After attending the first week, I invited her to come to church with me. Her exposure to the church overseas warmed her to coming. I soon learned that she cried the first time she attended church and felt very moved again during the church service she attended with me. She wanted to know why she felt like crying in church, and I gave her the only explanation that seemed right—God was working in her life. A month later, she headed to an ESL Bible study to find that the teacher was ill and class was cancelled. I had been her transportation all along, so we went back to her place and completed the study together. Let by the Spirit, I shared the gospel in a simple and clear way. That day she became a follower of Jesus and the next week she was baptized at the church that had taught her English and the Bible!

The East-West team is seeking a Desktop and Server Administrator Volunteer who will diligently solve a wide range of desktop issues and assist with the IT needs for onboarding and offboarding staff. The volunteer will resolve East-West’s helpdesk tickets and assist with general IT needs of the staff.

Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

  • Uphold a close and growing relationship with Jesus Christ and a faithful member of a local church
  • Experience with Windows Server and Desktop Operating Systems for both PC and Macs
  • Knowledge of planning, installing, configuring and supporting desktop hardware and software
  • Problem solver - ability to look at complex scenarios, dissect them, research, and propose correct solutions
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, including proficiency in evaluating and prioritizing issues
  • Ability to effectively and clearly communicate technical concepts to all audiences
  • Strong problem-solving skills, conscientious and detail-oriented
  • Exhibits customer focus and dedication to service excellence and customer satisfaction
  • Ability to manage competing demands, accept criticism and constructive feedback, while being extremely adaptable and flexible
  • Driven to constantly improve IT operations and support - not satisfied with the status quo
  • Driven to abide by standards of operations and to develop new standards when necessary
